God Sent a Yankee

Sparks fly when quick-tempered Southern belle Coraline Chretien meets a Yankee major, William Kelly, on a bridge in war-torn southeastern Louisiana. Their paths soon cross again as the Yankees and Rebels clash in the 1863 Battle of Buzzard’s Prairie and Cora’s family plantation is overrun. Unable to deny her attraction to this kind-hearted enemy officer, Cora finds herself falling in love, much to the disapproval of both family and neighbors.

Cora and Will must trust God’s providence in an impossible situation when everything seems against them. Will Cora sort out her conflicting emotions and family loyalties? Will the major reconcile his duty to the Union army and his attraction to Cora? Throw in a contested search for the mythical and elusive buried treasure that could save the plantation from being sold for taxes, and you have the makings of an explosive drama. Can Cora locate the buried treasure and avoid the loss of her ancestral home? Will Major Will return to win her Rebel father’s approval to marry Cora?

Set at the Chretien Point plantation during a little-known battle of the Civil War in a lesser-known part of the South, this inspirational historical romance deals with the universal struggles of forbidden love, overcoming threatening obstacles, and seeking God’s will.

Excerpts from God Sent a Yankee

She’d found the treasure, but it didn’t seem so important, for now she may have lost her most treasured possession, Will’s love for her.

He sighed heavily. “I know how to fight as a soldier, but this battle requires so much more of me.”

“Yes, your heart and soul. All your strength and abilities. I think God gives us the battles to prove He will give us everything we need to win.

“God put this love in their hearts. Their love transcends all boundaries, all political alliances. Are we going to stand in the way of what God has ordained for them?”

“I have to think were it not for the war and those two good men coming here to fight, they’d never have met our daughters. God always brings some good out of the trials and I think He’s just shown us He’s true to His word.”

This was the moment Will had dreaded, another battle yet to fight before he could return home to peace and this battle involved his heart more than his physical body. The enemy was like none he’d faced before. The wounds inflicted today would go deep and remain sore for a long time. But his love for Cora ran deep, and he would make any sacrifice to have her by his side for the rest of his life. He believed God would fight the battle with him.

Will stood. “What can I do? I refuse to take her away without her father’s blessing. That’s no way to start a life together. I don’t want her to ever regret marrying me.”

Cora’s father rubbed his chin, thoughtfully considering her mother’s words. “I cannot agree with you that it is the best for our daughter.”

“Perhaps we need to consider what might be God’s best for her and get out of His way.”
